There is an Opioid Crisis in America Today

Could cannabis be used as an exit drug for opioid addiction?

According to the THE NATIONAL ACADEMIES PRESS  report on "The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids:  The Current State of Evidence and Recommendations for Research"  released in January 2017 the answer is revealing.

According to Marie McCormick,Chair Committee on the Health Effects of Marijuana:

At the time of this report’s release in January 2017, 28 states and the District of Columbia have legalized cannabis for the treatment of medical conditions. Eight of these states and the District of Columbia have also legalized cannabis for recreational use. In addition to the growing availability of legalized cannabis, there has also been a rapid expansion in the types of available cannabis products, including edibles, oils, and a variety of inhaled substances. In the current report, the committee presents a rigorous and thoughtful summary of the landscape of cannabis and health and puts forth recommendations to help advance the research field and better inform public health decisions. Is CBD Legal?

Yes. The agricultural act of 2014 (known as the 2014 Farm Bill) specifically exempts byproducts on industrial hemp, including" The  mature stalks of such plant, fiber produced from such stalks, oil or cake made from the seeds of such plant, any other compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of such mature stalks (except the resin extracted therefrom), fiber, oil, cake, or the sterilized seed of such plant which is incapable of germination"  from being classified as a schedule 1 under the CSA 21 USC 802 (16).  Our Industrial hemp derived Cannabidiol (CBD) contains the acceptable .3% THC necessary to promote the "entourage" effect necessary to treat a multitude of therapeutic indications. Our product is non-psychoactive.

CBD products are considered food or dietary supplements.  Our CBD oil is extracted from organic hemp plants cultivated on licensed farms in Colorado, USA. All nourished with pristine Rocky Mountain water and lots of sunshine. Grown the way nature intended and harvested at peak perfection. Never imported from a foreign country.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Hemp Industries Assn., v. Drug Enforcement Admin., 357 F.3d 1012 (9th Cir.2004), recognized that"non-psychoactive hemp [that] is derived from the 'mature stalks' or is 'oil and cake made from the seeds' of the Cannabis plant,...fits within the plainly stated exception to the CSA definition of marijuana." Id. at 1017.  As such the court determined that the government does not have authority under the current law to completely ban "THC that is found within the parts of Cannabis plants that are excluded from CSA's definition of 'marijuana'or that is not synthetic." Id. at 1018.  It is legal to import, but why take the chance.  Since 1937, the federal statute controlling marijuana has excluded the stalk, fiber, oil and sterilized seed of the plant Cannabis sativa L.,commonly known as hemp, from the definition of marijuana.  21 U.S.C. 802 (16), and in reference to 2-6-04 Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling.

Final Thoughts

It's startling that there have been over 25,510 studies available showing the efficacy of marijuana,  only 960 studies on Hydrocodone, and only 201 studies on Adderall.

As President Trump stated in his Opioid Crisis Speech on October 26, 2017 the facts are that since 1999, the number of American overdoes deaths involving opioids has quadrupled.  From 2000 to 2015, more than 500,000 people died from drug overdoses, and opioids account for the majority of those.  Recently released numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that around 64,000 people died from drug overdose in 2016. 175 people a day, 7 people every hour.

CBD oil alone is expected to grow  700% by 2020 from 202 million in 2015 to 2.1 billion in 2020. WHY? Read the research. CBD is now legal in all 50 states.

Please note on the misconceptions of trace amounts of THC: Contrary to popular belief, some traces of THC are necessary for maximum efficacy to help produce "The Entourage Effect" when using different forms of Cannabis Sativa. However, the amount of THC in CBD Oil (products), is strictly limited, and reflects doses and concentrations permitted by pharmaceutical standards. It’s important to understand the difference and read product labels when finding the right CBD oil for you.
